Graduation ceremonies, Bogar Hall, Susquehanna University
Susquehanna University celebrated its centennial in 1958. Shown here are the commencement exercises of 1958 taking place in front of Bogar Hall. The stage-like entrance to the building made it perfectly suited to the happy occasion.

House Mothers helped to enforce residence hall rules. This 1958 image shows Dean Ruth Meister and House Mother Mrs. Marguerite Stocking visiting freshman students in their dorm room.
Greek letter societies, Lambda Chi Alpha, Bond and Key, Susquehanna University
The original Lambda Chi Alpha, formerly Bond and Key, fraternity house was located at 309 University Avenue. In 1961, the fraternity sold the house and built a new residence next to rival fraternity Theta Chi. Shown from left at the 309 University Ave address in 1958 are Lamda Chi Alpha members T. Pupo, F. Men's Student Council, Susquehanna University, Behavior
The Men's Student Council was revised in 1924 under the leadership of Roger Blough, who would later become the chief executive officer of the United States Steel Corporation. The Men's Student Council initiated the student handbooks and also played a leading role in maintaining student judicial order. Shown in this image are rules from the 1958 Men's Student Council Handbook.
Selinsgrove, Pa., Susquehanna University
The first building at Susquehanna University was named Selinsgrove Hall after the town in which it was built. The town of Selinsgrove and the University have a close connection and these images show places that Susquehanna students might have frequented in 1959. Some of these "familiar sights" no longer exist as pictured here.
History, Susquehanna University, Clark, William S., Wilson, Arthur H., Books
The Susquehanna University Centennial Year was celebrated in 1958. At that time the only published history of the Institute was The Story of The Story of Susquehanna University was written by William S. Clark, class of 1948, and Dr. Arthur Herman Wilson, a Professor of English. Clark wrote about the Institute's history from 1858 to 1927. Wilson wrote about the Institute's history from 1928 to 1958. Shown here is the cover page of The Story of Susquehanna University. The next history of the University would not be written until 2008, when Emeritus Professor of History Donald D. Housley completed his account in time for the University's Sesquicentennial.
Susquehanna University, Tuition, Prices
By 1958, Susquehanna was no longer breaking out tuition expenses across gender lines. Variances in charges were itemized for resident and non-resident students. Notice that the University began to charge students for health and accident insurance.
