The Second World War did its part to subdue social life at Susquehanna. However, the University did its best to sustain student life on campus. This image shows a letter sent to chaperones of an upcoming Fraternity Pledge dance. The war-time influence is apparent in the instructions given for procedures in the event of a blackout.

On February 10, 1943, Dean Galt sent a letter to those students that had been called to active duty. The letter details the students' choices in place of departure as well as date and times. Dean Galt requested that the service men notify him of their place of departure so that he might provide each of them with a required copy of their college transcript. These Susquehanna soldiers would become known as the "Thirty Gallant Men."
