"Woman has done more for Mankind than Man." Different points of view were held among members of the Philosophian and Clionian Societies. To air these differences of opinion, debates at joint sessions were conducted. The societies held regular debates on various subjects, including this one on the accomplishments of women.

Along with debates the literary socieites on campus held Exhibitions. This is the program of the first Philo Society Exhibition held in February 1861. The public was welcome to attend these Exhibitions, and some of them could be considerably long with various orations and debates.

The Philosophian Literary Society was among the groups on campus that had a permanent meeting room. First it was on the top floor of the Institute Building (Selinsgrove Hall). Later it moved to the 3rd floor of Gustavus Adolphus Hall.

Jonathan Dimm was the fifth President of the Missionary Institute. He served from 1895 to 1899. One of the founders of Susquehanna University.

John Focht was the assistant principal of the Missionary Institute from 1881 to 1882 , and Susquehanna University's eighth President from 1904 to 1905.

Franklin Manhart was the fourth President of the Missionary Institute, 1893 to 1895, and served one month as the first President of Susquehanna University.

These are the Rules and Regulations for students at the Missionary Institute. There was a proscribed theme of conduct specified in the rules. The daily routine of the students was mandated by the Institute, which governed general behavior including hours for study and sleep. Notice that, among many other rules, students had to rise no later than 6 a.m. and to retire no later than 10 p.m.

The June 8, 1887 Third Year Class held its class exercises at Town Hall, in Selinsgrove. Selinsgrove was spelled Selin's Grove until August of 1894.
