On November 6, 2000, sixty members of Susquehanna 's Top 100 Players of 100 Seasons Football Team returned to campus for a reunion during the last game played on the original Amos Alonzo Stagg Field. A ground breaking ceremony was also held for the new Nicholas A. Lopardo Stadium, on which construction would begin later in the year.

The University's new sports complex was named in tribute to coach Jim Garrett during Homecoming 2001. Garrett served as head football coach at Susquehanna University in the 1960s.

A $7.5 million grant was awarded to Susquehanna University, through the Degenstein Foundation, in 2001 for the construction of a new music and art center. Renovation would be done to Heilman Hall which would later be renamed the Cunningham Center for Music and Art, after Susquehanna University's 13th President, Joel Cunningham.

On January 28, 2005 the daughter of Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., Reverend Bernice King, held a meet-and-greet session in the Lore Degenstein Gallery in the Degenstein Campus Center. Reverend King participated in a series of events at Bucknell and Susquehanna Universities honoring the legacy of her father.

In the fall of 2005, the Volunteer Programs welcomed its new coordinator, Eric Lassahn. Some of his responsibilities included organizing blood drives, holiday food and clothing drives and planning Volunteer Recognition Day. He also developed a volunteer packet to help students organize and plan their volunteer experiences.

In 2002, women's golf became the 23rd varsity sport at Susquehanna University. The sports program now offered 12 women's sports and 11 men's sports.
