Photograph of Christy Mathewson's bust at the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Mathewson was inducted in 1936. The artist Gertrude, prided herself in sculpting her subjects through mostly observation. This specialty allowed her access to create busts of some of the most brilliant and reclusive people of her time; Albert Einstein, John Muir, Luther Burbank. It also provided her with a skill to do representative pieces; Mark Twain, John C. Fremont.
