A photograph of the inscription inside the lid of a metal casket, which reads: "This casket is presented to Andrew Carnegie, Esq. by the Alumni Association of the Stevens Institute of Technology in commemoration of his gift to the Institute for the building for the Carnegie Laboratory of Engineering and contains a portion of the first T rail ever manufactured, the same having been rolled in 1831 at the mills of Sir John Guest in Wales under the personal supervision of Mr. Robert L. Stevens who devised the rail and contracted for its manufacture in quantity for the Camden and Amboy R.R. of which he was president and engineer-in-chief."
