A copy of a typescript letter from E. Ray Lankester to William Holland written in answer to Holland's letter of June 10th requesting input on the particulars of the installation of the Diplodocus carnegii reproduction at the British Museum. Lankester addresses the matters of support bases and the placement of the skeleton within the Museum and notes that another museum employee will be in contact with Holland regarding transit and delivery details. The remainder of the letter discusses various installation timetable options based on the availability of King Edward VII, Andrew Carnegie, and museum trustees and employees to attend an installation ceremony.

An unsigned typescript letter presumably from James Bertram, Andrew Carnegie's personal secretary, to William Holland written in response to Holland's January 10th letter requesting current benefactions data for use in updating an Andrew Carnegie biographical sketch for the American biographical cyclopaedia. To fulfill Holland's request, Bertram explains that he is loaning Holland a copy of a pamphlet (notincluded) written by Dr. Ross, presumably Carnegie Dunfermline Trust Chairman John Ross.

A typescript letter presumably from James Bertram to W. J. Holland, Director of Carnegie Museums, regarding a missing portrait of Emperor Francis Josef. Bertram asks Holland as he visits Vienna to ""set up the diplodocus there"", if he recollects the portrait of the Emperor and asks him if it was framed and what the size of it was. The portrait (photograph) was a gift to Andrew Carnegie. Corrections in ink.

A unsigned typescript letter presumably from an unidentified official of Carnegie Institute to William Jacob Holland. The author of the letter light-heartedly reprimands Holland for allowing an underling to send Carnegie a lengthy handwritten letter, most likely referring to paleontologist Earl Douglass's letter of the 27th concerning the Utah dinosaur quarry. Marked in pencil ""Carnegie Institute"".

A signed typescript letter from William Holland to Andrew Carnegie informing him that the American biographical cyclopaedia has sent Holland a draft (not included) of a brief Andrew Carnegie biography with a request that Holland revise and/or rewrite it for publication. Holland notes that the biography in its present form is inadequate and asks Carnegie to have his personal secretary send Holland current facts and figures about Carnegie's benefactions so that Holland can incorporate them in his revisions. A handwritten penciled notation on page 2 of the letter says, ""I wrote Holland.""

A typescript letter from W.J. Holland, Director of Carnegie Museum to Andrew Carnegie requesting a photograph of Andrew Carnegie to be mailed to Mr. J.L. Lewis. Mr. Lewis had dropped by Holland's office at the Carnegie Museum and admired a photograph that W.J. Holland had of Andrew Carnegie and expressed interest in acquiring one. In the past, Lewis had presented to the Carnegie Museum a collection of gems and gemstones. Holland request Mr. James Bertram to send the photograph to Mr. Lewis at his Pittsburgh, Pa. post office box address. On Carnegie Museum letterhead. Includes signature of W.J. Holland and penciled notation ""Photo sent Apr -1 1911"".

A handwritten letter from W.J. Holland to Andrew Carnegie concerning the cost and shipment of a replica of a Diplodocus (Diplodocus carnegii skeleton, located in Carnegie Museum, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) to the National Museum in Buenos Aires (i.e. the La Plata Museum located near the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina). Holland states, per Carnegie's letter he received, the cost to make and install a replica of the Diplodocus would average around $6,000. The average cost of past replicas that were made had been $5,860 a piece. He does note that the freight to Argentina may be higher than the freight to other past destinations. Carnegie also asked how long it would take to make the replica and Holland states that it will take six weeks to make, another six weeks to get it to Buenos Aires and four weeks to mount the specimen in the museum.

A typescript letter from W. J. Holland, Director of Carnegie Museums, to James Bertram regarding a letter Bertram sent to him dated February 16, 1911. The letter was about a missing portrait (called photograph by Holland) of Emperor Francis Josef. The portrait was a gift to Andrew Carnegie. Mr. Holland states he never saw the portrait but also assumes that it may be mislaid somewhere but safely ""stowed away"". Signature of W.J. Holland. Some words underlined in blue pencil.

A typescript letter from W.J. Holland to Romulo S. Naon, Argentinean ambassador to the United States concerning the donation of a replica of a Diplodocus (Diplodocus carnegii skeleton, located in Carnegie Museum, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) to Argentina. Holland states that Andrew Carnegie has asked him to comply with the request of the president of Argentina (Sa?enz Pen?a), via the ambassador of Argentina Ro?mulo S. Naon, for a replica of the Diplodocus that the Carnegie Museum owns. He notes that similar replicas have been given to King Edward VII and other heads of state. Holland requests that Naon put him ""in communication with the proper authorities of the museum in your country"" that will be receiving the replica. He needs to know the amount of space the exhibit will use and asks Naon tell the museum to make bases for the display. Holland also needs to know their ""wishes and purposes in reference to the installation. Inlcudes ink notation at the top of letter.
