A signed typescript letter from Edmondo Mayor des Planches to Andrew Carnegie acknowledging the receipt of William Holland's letter confirming Carnegie's plan to donate a diplodocus replica to the Aldrovandi Museum in Bologna and accepting the offer on behalf of King Victor Emmanuel. Des Planches notes that he has also wired Carnegie to request a meeting with him on Saturday, February 13th in New York to personally convey the King's thanks.

A newspaper clipping from the March 12, 1909 (?), World, which features a cartoon of Andrew Carnegie presenting a diplodocus model to King Victor Emmanuel of Italy for placement in the geological museum of Bologna University. Below the cartoon is a fictionalized tongue-in-cheek account of the dialogue that took place between Carnegie and the King during the presentation.

A signed handwritten letter from William Holland to Andrew Carnegie notifying him of Holland's arrival in London and providing him with addresses where Holland can be reached throughout the fall while he is helping with the installation of diplodocus models in Vienna and Bologna. Holland also reports that he has brought along five hundred Carnegie Museum specimens of Central African lepidoptera that are not in the British Museum to share with entomologist Sir George Hampson who would like to include figures of them in a book he is preparing.

A signed typescript letter from William Holland to Andrew Carnegie discussing responses from Austria, Russia, and Italy concerning offers of gift diplodocus models. Holland notes that he is currently corresponding with contacts in Vienna and St. Petersburg to assess interest and that Italy has already accepted the offer. The remainder of the letter relates the events of a recent Lincoln's birthday celebration held at the Carnegie Museum.

Holland reports that the reproduction for Austria has been completed and shipped; that the reproduction for Italy is currently in progress and should be shipped by the end of August; that work on the reproduction for Russia is just getting underway; and that he plans to leave for Europe on September 1st to help with the installations in Vienna and Bologna.
