A signed typescript letter from Edmondo Mayor des Planches to Andrew Carnegie acknowledging the receipt of William Holland's letter confirming Carnegie's plan to donate a diplodocus replica to the Aldrovandi Museum in Bologna and accepting the offer on behalf of King Victor Emmanuel. Des Planches notes that he has also wired Carnegie to request a meeting with him on Saturday, February 13th in New York to personally convey the King's thanks.

An unsigned typescript letter presumably from James Bertram, Andrew Carnegie's personal secretary, to William Holland written in response to Holland's May 12th letter to Andrew Carnegie. Bertram notes that Carnegie indicated in a penciled note on Holland's letter that he does not want Holland to use his own money to pay any expenses associated with a trip to Madrid to install their diplodocus and that he would like Holland to visit Skibo on his way home from Madrid.

An unsigned, typescript letter, presumably from James Bertram to William Holland, written in response to Holland's June 10th letter. Bertram instructs Holland to proceed with readying diplodocus models for Paris and Berlin and notes that Carnegie has promised to ""play Emperor"" and give Holland a title if he is not decorated when he travels to these cities to erect the models.

Typescript letter (copy). The French ambassador to the United States, J.J. Jusserand, writes to W.J. Holland confirming the acceptance, by French President Fallie?res, of Andrew Carnegie's gift of a Diplodocus reproduction to the Muse?um national d'histoire naturelle in Paris. He instructs Holland to deal directly with the museum's director concerning the installation.

A signed handwritten letter from William Holland to Andrew Carnegie notifying him of Holland's arrival in London and providing him with addresses where Holland can be reached throughout the fall while he is helping with the installation of diplodocus models in Vienna and Bologna. Holland also reports that he has brought along five hundred Carnegie Museum specimens of Central African lepidoptera that are not in the British Museum to share with entomologist Sir George Hampson who would like to include figures of them in a book he is preparing.

Holland notes that he is currently corresponding with contacts in Vienna and St. Petersburg to assess interest and that Italy has already accepted the offer. The remainder of the letter relates the events of a recent Lincoln's birthday celebration held at the Carnegie Museum.

A signed typescript letter from William Holland to Andrew Carnegie informing him that Holland has been in touch with both French Ambassador Jusserand and Museum Director Perrier and that French President Fallires has accepted the offer of a gift diplodocus. Copies of original correspondence are enclosed (not included). The letter also discusses the second annual meeting of the American Association of Museums and recent attendance figures at the Carnegie Museum. An unsigned handwritten notation in pencil on page two of the letter jokes that if Holland is not decorated when he goes to erect gift diplodocuses in Paris and Berlin, Carnegie will ""play Emperor"" and give him a title.

A signed typescript letter from William Holland to Andrew Carnegie requesting additional funds to cover construction and installation costs for more diplodocus models, particularly the one for Spain. In a typescript postscript, Holland notes that he is writing a book about his travels in Argentina during his trip to install a diplodocus model there and he plans to send the first published copy to Carnegie. A typescript note affixed to the front of the letter states that the requested funds were sent to Holland on May 14th. A handwritten initialed notation in pencil in the right margin of the letter indicates that Carnegie does not want Holland to use his own money to pay any expenses associated with his trip to Madrid.
