A newspaper article from the Gazette times (Pittsburgh, Pa.) dated October 9, 1911, concerning the ""great organ"" located in the music hall at the Carnegie Institute and the recitals by Charles Heinroth, organist and director of music at the Carnegie Institute. The beginning of the article includes the following line about the ""great organ"": ""Doubted if there is a better in the world than that of Carnegie Institute"". The article also discusses the recitals of Caspar P. Koch, organist at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, Allegheny Regional Branch, Music Hall and the organ located there. The ""great organ"" at the Carnegie Institute was designed by Frederick Archer, the first organist there and later remolded by Edwin Lemare, the second organist there. Charles Heinroth followed Lemare as the organist at the Carnegie Institute and had the organ rebuilt after securing Andrew Carnegie's consent.

Bertram notes, that though pleased with a recent Kleinschmidt lecture, Carnegie does not wish to supply additional funding beyond what the Carnegie Institute has already provided.

Contains a newspaper clipping and handwritten letter. The newspaper clipping from an unidentified newspaper reports that Andrew Carnegie has offered President Roosevelt a ""large salary to take up educational work at the end of his term"". Mr. Carnegie was reported as leaving ""a system for education that will make John D. Rockefeller's Chicago University pale into insignificance"". The article states that Carnegie was evasive when asked about the Washington (D.C.) rumor and he said: ""I can't be blamed for what folks want to imagine"". The handwritten letter from Samuel H. Church to Andrew Carnegie makes reference presumably to the above mentioned newspaper clipping of March 18, 1908. In the letter Church expresses his interest in Roosevelt taking charge of the ""associated institutions at Pittsburgh"". Church writes that he could ""oversee the Literary and Publicity departments"" and he could also leave the ""railroad"". He ends by writing ""we would (beat?) the world.""
