Andrew Carnegie writes to the President and Trustees of the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh about President WIlliam McKinleys plans to attend the Institutes Founders Day celebration. Carnegie goes on to praise the Institutes accomplishments, and speaks of the Citys newfound prominence in arts and sciences. Carnegie states that he believes that enlargement of the Institute and Library (and their branches) is advisable.

Andrew Carnegie reiterates his opinion that he should not attend the Founders Day (1897) celebration at the Carnegie Institute due to President William McKinleys attendance. Carnegie goes on to inform Frew of the gift of two paintings, portraits of William Pitt and Edmund Burke. Carnegie references an unidentified address that was originally enclosed with this correspondence.
