Carnegie congratulates Beatty on the work he is doing and reminds him that he values his opinion with regards to fine art, especially his recent selection of a La Thangue work.

Bertram notes that he has enclosed a copy of a letter to the secretary of the Lotos Club, presumably requesting a Club card for English artist Alfred East to use during his upcoming visit to New York. A handwritten notation at the top of the letter says, ""Alfred East.""

A typescript letter from John W. Beatty to James Bertram regarding a missing photograph that was taken of a painting of Andrew Carnegie that, presumably, Edward A. Walton painted (presumably the portrait Walton painted of Carnegie commissioned by St. Andrews University). In the letter Beatty acknowledges receiving Bertram's letter dated December 22, 1911 and the enclosed letter (not here) written by Mr. Walton. He states that he will write Mr. Walton in order to trace the photograph and he is sure it has ""been lost in transit"". Beatty closes the letter by wishing Bertram a ""Happy New Year"".
