A signed typescript letter from Andrew Carnegie to William McConway, Chairman of the Carnegie Institute Board of Trustees Technical Schools Committee, in response to McConway's letters of July 9th and 15th. Carnegie reiterates his position that the Pittsburgh Technical Schools should begin on a small scale teaching the same subjects that are already being taught at other technical schools.

A copy of a typescript letter from Rebecca Foster to John Beatty confirming her asking price of $1,000 for an original painting of Stephen Foster. Mrs. Foster explains that the value was suggested by her now deceased husband Morrison, Stephen Foster's brother.
