A typescript letter from J. A. Graber (Business Manager, Dept. of Fine Arts, Carnegie Institute) to James Bertram stating that Mr. Samuel H. Church has asked Garber to make arrangements to have the Anders Zorn portrait of Andrew Carnegie shipped to Pittsburgh. Garber is writing to the Carnegie Institute's agents, W.S. Budworth and Son to contact Bertram about when they can pick up the painting. Insurance for the painting is being arranged and Garber will contact W.S. Budworth and Son by telegram when the insurance arrangements have been completed. On Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh, Pa., John W. Beatty, M.A. , Director of Fine Arts letterhead. Signed J.A. A typescript letter from John A. Poynton, Andrew Carnegie's personal secretary, to Col. Samuel Harden Church explaining the portrait painted by Princess Lwoff-Parlaghy of Andrew Carnegie is being packed and will be shipped to the Institute (Carnegie Institute). Carnegie is sending the portrait to the Institute ""because it is the costliest picture of him, by far, ever purchased"". On Andrew Carnegie stationary, signed in ink by J.A. Poynton. Includes handwritten note at bottom of letter from Samuel H. Church to Mr. Cunningham (custodian of buildings and grounds at the Carnegie Institute), dated May 22, 1914, stating that Mr. Church is going to ""deposit"" the picture in the ""President's Room"" and asks that Cunningham notify him when it arrives.

A typescript letter from John W. Beatty to Samuel H. Church regarding members of the Carnegie Institute Board of Trustees who ""called to see the portrait"", presumably a portrait painted of Andrew Carnegie by Anders Zorn. The members who viewed the portrait included: John A. Brashear, William N. Frew, William McConway, W. Lucien Scaife, and George A. Macbeth. Macbeth brought his daughter with him and Brashear brought Arthur A. Hamerschlag with him to view the portrait. At end of the letter there is a notation in ink that states Shaw and Church ""also saw it"".

A typescript letter from John W. Beatty to James Bertram regarding a missing photograph that was taken of a painting of Andrew Carnegie that, presumably, Edward A. Walton painted (presumably the portrait Walton painted of Carnegie commissioned by St. Andrews University). In the letter Beatty acknowledges receiving Bertram's letter dated December 22, 1911 and the enclosed letter (not here) written by Mr. Walton. He states that he will write Mr. Walton in order to trace the photograph and he is sure it has ""been lost in transit"". Beatty closes the letter by wishing Bertram a ""Happy New Year"".

A typescript letter from Robert Scully to Samuel Harden Church regarding the shipment of a portrait Anders Zorn painted of Andrew Carnegie. Scully writes, per Church's letter of September 13, 1911, that he will make arrangements with Budworth and Son (to ship the painting to Mr. John W. Beatty, Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh, Pa.). Scully also states that he is enclosing a letter from Mr. James Bertram dated, June 29, 1911. He will notify Church when the portrait is ""en route"". He concludes the letter by writing that Church's own picture ""has been received at 91st Street and will be installed in Mr. Carnegie's room as requested"". This was the address of Andrew Carnegie's home in New York City. On The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching letterhead.

Church writes that the portrait had been picked up at the Carnegie mansion (in New York City) on Sat, September 16th by Budworth and Son and it was being shipped by American Express to Mr. John W. Beatty (Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh, Pa.). He asks Garber to let him know ""as soon as the picture arrives"" and to not let anyone look at the portrait unless Church or Beatty authorizes it. A typescript letter from Samuel H. Church to Andrew Carnegie concerning the portrait that Mr. Anders Zorn will paint of Carnegie. Church explains that he got in touch with Mr. Zorn as soon as he received Carnegies telegram. He writes that Mr. Zorn is now staying at the Arlington Hotel in Washington, D.C. and is currently painting a portrait of President Taft. This portrait of Taft will not be finished until around April 22, 1911 and Zorn would then be available to paint Carnegie's portrait. He mentions that Carnegie's visit to Pittsburgh, Pa. for Founder's Day would probably interrupt his sitting for the portrait. He will let Carnegie know if Zorn would like to start painting the portrait before or after Carnegie's visit to Pittsburgh. Includes signature of S.H. Church and penciled in corrections in the letter.

Church writes that he is enclosing a letter addressed to Scully from James Bertram requesting him to make arrangements with Budworth and Son to ship the portrait to ""Mr. John W. Beatty, Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh, Pa."". He states that ""the insurance on the picture has been arranged"" and asks that Scully notify him when the portrait will be shipped.
