A typescript copy of a letter from Albert J. Barr to William Nimick Frew concerning a letter that was written to, Albert J. Barr, editor of the Pittsburgh Post about the Carnegie Institution and Library. This letter entitled: Carnegie gift's versus city's maintenance of Carnegie institutions, presumably written by Mary Copley Thaw criticizes the ""waste"" in management of the Carnegie Institute and Library and the amount of money the cities who are gifted with Carnegie libraries have to pay to maintain them. Mr. Barr suggests to fill the next vacancy on the Board of Trustees with the election of Mrs. M. C. T (i.e. Mrs. Mary Copley Thaw).

An unsigned copy of a typescript letter presumably from Andrew Carnegie to Adolph Ochs, owner and publisher of the New York Times, complaining about recent negative and inaccurate newspaper coverage concerning Carnegie Institute Board President William Frew, the Pittsburgh Technical Schools, and School Director Arthur Hamerschlag. The letter is accompanied by a copy of an April 25th news story and a letter from Frew. A handwritten notation indicates that this is Frew's copy of the letter and a typescript postscript, presumably added by James Bertram, directs Frew to follow up on the matter if necessary.

Carnegie thanks Holland for sending him a copy of a letter he received that was written in simplified spelling and urges Holland to abandon conventional spelling for this new and improved method.

An unsigned typescript copy of a letter presumably from Andrew Carnegie to William Holland acknowledging the receipt of a letter from Holland and asking him to please visit Carnegie in New York on his way back to Pittsburgh from his European trip. A handwritten notation on the letter indicates that a copy was sent to Franz Steindachner, Director of the Imperial Museum at Vienna.

A telegram (marked ""copy"") from Andrew Carnegie to ""editor Leader, Pittsburgh, Pa."" (i.e., Alexander Pollock Moore), in response to Moore's letter of the 29th, in which Moore, suggesting that rather than create a pension for the ex-presidents of the United States as Carnegie had proposed, he create instead a fund to assist those who had been injured and the families of those who had been killed at his steel works. In the telegram, Carnegie responds that upon retiring eleven years ago he had created a $5 million fund for pensions and relief for his workers, as well as a $1 million fund to support the libraries and halls he had built.

A typescript letter from Andrew Carnegie to Charles H. Sherrill regarding a letter received on March 16, 1911 from Sherrill requesting Carnegie donate a cast of the Diplodocus (Diplodocus carnegii skeleton, located in Carnegie Museum, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) to Argentina. Mr. Carnegie agrees to comply with the request. Carnegie remembers sitting next to Senor Quintana, future president of Argentina, at the first Pan-American Conference. Mr. Quintana mentioned to Mr. Blaine that he wanted to invite Carnegie to visit Argentina as a guest of the state. Mr. Carnegie states that Quintana's life was too short. Carnegie then writes that he will only consider giving copies of the Diplodocus to a place when requests are made by heads of state. He has given copies to France, Germany Russia, Austria and Italy and he highly prizes the acknowledgements he has received from these heads of state. He asks Sherrill to have the current president of Argentina (Dr. Saenz Pena) sign an application, which Sherrill can prepare and then ""it will be filed with the rest"".

Two notes typed on same page. One note is to C.H.C. (i.e., S.H.C.) from Andrew Carnegie asking Mrs. C. to buy a present for Charley's son and spend $500. The second note is dated February 15, 1907 from Samuel Harden Church to Andrew Carnegie noting that Mrs. Church has purchased the present.
