Carnegie's speech on the occasion of his presentation of a lake to Princeton University. Carnegie touches on a variety of subjects from the history of Princeton University, its stature as the "University (loyal) to the American cause", and athletics in general.

Carnegie speaks on the subjects of greatest interest to him: peace, arbitration, industry, and a host of other topics.

Henry Pritchett sings the praises of Andrew Carnegie's philanthropy and discusses a family of institutions: the Carnegie Institute, the Research Institution of Washington, the Hero Fund, the Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, the Peace Endowment, and the Carnegie Corporation of New York.

William Nimick Frew's service is acknowledged, as well as the work of the Board of Trustees. The revisions include acknowledgement of the election of Samuel Harden Church as president of the Institute and Mrs. Carnegie's regrets that she is unable to attend due to illness.

Church, President of the Carnegie Institute, begins his address by relating American involvement in World War I to the story of Beowulf, and continues by discussing the War in less metaphorical terms.
