Board of Trustees, Church, Samuel Harden--Correspondence
A typescript letter from Samuel Harden Church to Andrew Carnegie concerning Founder's Day 1901. Mr. Church states that President Frew, Carnegie Institute, Board of Trustees, has appointed a committee to make preparations for the Founder's Day celebration, including the following members: John A. Brashear, Chairman, S.H. Church, Secretary, Robert Pitcairn, James M. Clark and W.A. Magee. He states that the trustees have invited Andrew Carnegie and Mrs. Carnegie to be their guests on Founder's Day, November, 7 1901. If Carnegie cannot come then Church asks him to induce President Grover Cleveland to make the principal address. If Cleveland cannot come then the next choices would be Lord Rose and Arthur J. Balfour. Church then writes that if Carnegie wishes to ""quit"" after he invites Mr. Cleveland, the trustees would then take over the task of finding a speaker. Church states that Carnegie is the committees first choice. On Board of Trustees of the Carnegie Institute, Office of the Secretary stationary.
