Letter dated April 21, 1909 from Judge Joseph Buffington to Andrew Carnegie in which Judge Buffington makes reference to newspaper articles published in The dispatch (Pittsburgh, Pa) dated April 21, 1909. He remarks upon how good the articles look for the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. He then asks Mr. Carnegie if Hamerschlag can be added to the Board of Trustees.

He goes on to describe the group's initiative in applying for a charter (and receiving it), and the group's decision to align itself with the Pittsburgh Academy for Science and Art. Woodwell then relates the activities of the two Societies to the control of the management of the Carnegie Library (Pittsburgh).
