A signed typescript letter from Arthur Williston, a member of the Commission to establish the Carnegie Technical Schools in Pittsburgh, to Arthur Hamerschlag, Director of the Carnegie Technical Schools, formally stating Williston's previous verbal suggestions regarding the Program of Competition for the selection of an architect. The letter includes a detailed discussion of floor plan revisions the Commission is recommending for the School of Applied Science.

A typescript copy of a letter from Albert J. Barr to William Nimick Frew concerning a letter that was written to, Albert J. Barr, editor of the Pittsburgh Post about the Carnegie Institution and Library. This letter entitled: Carnegie gift's versus city's maintenance of Carnegie institutions, presumably written by Mary Copley Thaw criticizes the ""waste"" in management of the Carnegie Institute and Library and the amount of money the cities who are gifted with Carnegie libraries have to pay to maintain them. Mr. Barr suggests to fill the next vacancy on the Board of Trustees with the election of Mrs. M. C. T (i.e. Mrs. Mary Copley Thaw).

Architects Alden and Harlow write to Andrew Carnegie to inform him that they received an approximate estimate of $175,000 for the construction of the proposed East Liberty Branch Library.

Architects Alden and Harlow write to George A. Macbeth about the cost of a proposed Carnegie Branch Library in the Pittsburgh neighborhood of East Liberty. It is suggested that the branch would cost $125,000, more than other branches, because of differences in location, shelving/storage needs, and the requirements of a large reading room.
Alex Philip, bookseller, writes to Bertram about the purchase of some books second-hand. He mentions the titles "Perilous of the Erythraean Sea" and "Man-eaters of the Tsarvo".
