An unsigned typescript letter presumably from James Bertram, Andrew Carnegie's personal secretary, to William Holland written in response to Holland's May 12th letter to Andrew Carnegie. Bertram notes that Carnegie indicated in a penciled note on Holland's letter that he does not want Holland to use his own money to pay any expenses associated with a trip to Madrid to install their diplodocus and that he would like Holland to visit Skibo on his way home from Madrid.

An unsigned, typescript letter, presumably from James Bertram to William Holland, written in response to Holland's June 10th letter. Bertram instructs Holland to proceed with readying diplodocus models for Paris and Berlin and notes that Carnegie has promised to ""play Emperor"" and give Holland a title if he is not decorated when he travels to these cities to erect the models.

A typescript letter from P. Secretary, presumably James Bertram, to Charles H. Sherrill concerning a letter sent by Sherrill to Andrew Carnegie with the date of April 24, 1911. Bertram writes that Carnegie thanks him for his letter and is happy to hear about the praise given for President Taft and presumably Philander C. Knox for their work on peace. In the letter referred to written on April 24, 1911, Mr. Sherrill wrote that he sent a letter to Dr. Naon, Argentine Ambassador, suggesting that he telegram President Saenz Pena about the ""fossil diplodocus"". The subject of universal peace is brought up and Sherrill writes about the efforts of Secretary Knox and President Taft's ""toward maintaining international peace in South America"". Mr. Sherrill concluded the letter by mentioning his efforts in helping to restore relations between Bolivia and Argentina over the ""Bolivian-Peruvian boundary dispute"". Diplodocus and what looks like Pan Amer (crossed out) written in blue pencil is at the top of the letter.

A typescript letter presumably from James Bertram to John Barrett, director general, Pan American Union notifying Barrett that Andrew Carnegie received his letter of November 13, 1911 and that he would be glad to meet with Argentinean minister, Sen?or Doctor Don Ro?mulo S. Naon at 5:00 on November 20, 1911. The letter of November 13, 1911, from John Barrett, stated that Naon would like to meet with Carnegie to present a letter from Argentinean President Saenz Pen?a. Presumably in relation to a letter dated March 21, 1911 from Andrew Carnegie to C.H. Sherrill in which Carnegie writes that he agrees to comply with Sherrills request that he donate a copy of the Diplodocus (Diplodocus carnegii skeleton, located in Carnegie Museum, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) to Argentina. Carnegie also states in the letter of March 21, 1911 that he will only consider giving copies of the Diplodocus to a place when requests are made by heads of state.

A typescript letter presumably from James Bertram to W. J. Holland, Director of Carnegie Museums, regarding a missing portrait of Emperor Francis Josef. Bertram asks Holland as he visits Vienna to ""set up the diplodocus there"", if he recollects the portrait of the Emperor and asks him if it was framed and what the size of it was. The portrait (photograph) was a gift to Andrew Carnegie. Corrections in ink.

Typescript letter (copy). The French ambassador to the United States, J.J. Jusserand, writes to W.J. Holland confirming the acceptance, by French President Fallie?res, of Andrew Carnegie's gift of a Diplodocus reproduction to the Muse?um national d'histoire naturelle in Paris. A typescript letter from John Barrett, director general, Pan American Union notifying Andrew Carnegie that Argentinean minister, Sen?or Doctor Don Ro?mulo S. Naon, has informed him that he cannot go to New York on November 17, 1911 and meet with Carnegie because he already has a dinner to attend to in Baltimore that day. Naon would like to meet with Carnegie on November 20th or 21st, 1911. If that is okay he will meet Carnegie at 5:00 on the date selected to present the letter from Argentinean President Saenz Pen?a. Presumably in relation to a letter dated March 21, 1911 from Andrew Carnegie to C.H. Sherrill in which he writes that he agrees to comply with Sherrills request that he donate a copy of the Diplodocus (Diplodocus carnegii skeleton, located in Carnegie Museum, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) to Argentina. Carnegie also states in the letter of March 21, 1911 that he will only consider giving copies of the Diplodocus to a place when requests are made by heads of state. On Pan American Union stationary and signed by John Barrett. Includes penciled notations and some shorthand along top and right side of letter.

Poynton states that Andrew Carnegie has refused Weinberg's request for funds, expressed in his letter of March 21st, for the Senckenbergische Naturforschende Gesellschaft; he also indicates the inclusion (not included) of a copy of a letter by the director of the Carnegie Museum at Pittsburgh containing a list of the recipients of Diplodocus replicas, among which is the Royal Natural History Museum in Berlin.

Typescript letter from Carnegie Museum director W.J. Holland to Carnegie, noting receipt of a letter from the director of the British Museum thanking Carnegie for his offer of a reproduction of Diplodocus, and he comments on the technical process of making the molds and the cost of doing so. Similar gifts might be made to other European governments, on condition that they reciprocate with models for the Carnegie Museum. He is also sending Carnegie, under separate cover, a paper on fossil dogs.

Typescript letter (carbon copy). Museum director Holland describes the ongoing restoration of the Diplodocus specimen. He then speaks of a large collection of European fossils collected by Bayet of Brussels, now offered for sale. Both the Imperial Museum in St. Petersburg and the British Museum are interested in it, as is the Zoological Museum at Cambridge. Alexander Agassiz is coming to Pittsburgh to see Holland to propose that the two museums purchase the collection jointly, for $25,000. However, as no American museum has such a collection of European paleontology. Holland appeals to Carnegie to provide funding for the purchase, which would supplement the Museum's American collection.
