Bertram relates Carnegie's pleasure in the articles written by William Howe Downes, art critic for the Boston evening transcript, which presumably praised the Carnegie Institute's art galleries.

A typescript letter (signed) from John W. Beatty to Andrew Carnegie concerning comments made by William Howe Downes, art critic for the Boston evening transcript, about ""the exhibition in and around Pittsburgh,"" based upon which Beatty believes it is ""up to our standard."" In a postscript, Beatty states that the bust of John Paul Jones ""came on Saturday from Mr. Millet."" On letterhead of the Carnegie Institute.
