A photograph of a reproduction of an invoice contained in a casket presented to Andrew Carnegie by the Alumni Association of the Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, New Jersey, in appreciation of funds donated for the construction of what would be known as the Carnegie Laboratory of Engineering. The invoice is for steel to be utilized in the making of an iron rail, a segment of which is included in the casket and is described in an inscription on the inside of the lid as "a portion of the first T rail ever manufactured, the same having been rolled in 1831 at the mills of Sir John Guest in Wales under the personal supervision of Mr. Robert L. Stevens who devised the rail and contracted for its manufacture in quantity for the Camden and Amboy R.R. of which he was president and engineer-in-chief."
