An unsigned typescript letter presumably from James Bertram, Andrew Carnegie's personal secretary, to John Beatty, Carnegie Institute Director of Fine Arts, acknowledging the receipt of Beatty's March 24th letter. Bertram notes that he has enclosed a copy of a letter to the secretary of the Lotos Club, presumably requesting a Club card for English artist Alfred East to use during his upcoming visit to New York. A handwritten notation at the top of the letter says, ""Alfred East.""

A signed typescript letter from John Beatty to Andrew Carnegie notifying him that Beatty is sending him a photograph of a William Pitt portrait that was painted by William Hoare. The painting, originally part of the Peel collection, was recently donated to the Carnegie Institute by George Lauder.
