A signed typescript letter from Harrison Morris, Managing Director of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, to Andrew Carnegie requesting confirmation that Carnegie would like to commission a copy of the Academy's portrait of Judge Ross by Thomas Sully for the Carnegie Institute and recommending that American painter William Chase be the one to prepare the copy. Morris also thanks Carnegie for contributing the painting ""Autumn Sunrise"" by Leonard Ochtman for the Academy' s 100th anniversary exhibition and notes that he is sending Carnegie copies of an announcement and a recent pamphlet relating to the Academy.

A signed typescript letter from Harrison Morris to James Bertram, written in response to Bertram's letter of November 28th. Morris explains that he recommended William Chase to copy Thomas Sully's painting of Judge Ross for the Carnegie Institute because he was under the impression that Mr. Carnegie wanted the copy to be a distinctive work of art which would gain in value by reason of its painter. Morris now suggests commissioning Hugh H. Breckenridge, a Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts Schools instructor, to prepare the copy.

A typescript letter (signed) from John W. Beatty to Andrew Carnegie. Beatty places the blame for the controversy over the bust of John Paul Jones on Frank D. Millet. In a handwritten postscript, Beatty mentions that the annual exhibition will include twenty-one works by Winslow Homer.

A typescript letter from John W. Beatty to Andrew Carnegie, on Carnegie Institute letterhead. Beatty reports having seen the Lauders' portrait of Mary Schenley for the first time and offers his impressions, then goes on to mention other pieces of art recently donated to the Carnegie Institute: Lawrence Grovenor's The mill and Bartolomeo Bezzi's Venetian Canal (both presented by Pittsburgh native Lawrence C. Phipps).

A signed typescript letter from John Beatty to Andrew Carnegie informing him about the travel plans of Alfred East, President of the Royal Society of British Artists, who is coming to the U.S. to serve as a member of the international jury of award for the upcoming annual Carnegie Institute art exhibition. Holland requests that Carnegie obtain a Lotus (aka Lotos) Club card for East and, if possible, spend some time with him. Beatty also notes that the other foreign member of the jury this year will be Dutch painter G.H. Breitner.

A typescript letter, presumably from Samuel H. Church, to Andrew Carnegie, concerning a letter Andrew Carnegie sent, dated January 19, 1911, to Frew and the Board of Trustees of the Carnegie Institute on what they would do with an extra fifty or a hundred thousand yearly income for the Institute. The Board does not feel there is a need for a new department for Carnegie Institute at this time; the present needs of the Technical Schools are being taken care of by Carnegie's endowments; the Board does believe that they can use $100,000 additional income in ""carrying forward and extending the work of the Museum and Fine Arts departments"" ; and the Board will transmit to Carnegie the ""reports of the Directors of the Museums and Fine Arts departments"" so that Carnegie can be acquainted with ""scope"" and ""purpose"" of these departments and the ""cost of developing them"". They also transmit a letter from the director of the Technical Schools with similar information.

A typescript letter from Samuel Harden Church, Secretary, Board of Trustees of the Carnegie Institute, to Andrew Carnegie concerning a letter Mr. Church received from Carnegie on June 17, 1901. Church states that they will wait to hear from him in regards to Grover Cleveland speaking at the upcoming Founders Day celebration and that he will still ask Lord Rosebery or Mr. Balfour to ""come over here"" on some future occasion. If Mr. Cleveland cannot attend Church likes the idea of Prime Minister Laurier of Canada speaking at the upcoming Founders Day celebration. Mr. Church then expresses regret that Carnegie is not planning to attend any more of the celebrations until the opening of the new building which may not happen for two or three more years. Church writes that he has been ""stirring up"" city officials in securing the land for the institute and the ""Technical Schools"". Mr. Church states that the committee on ""Plan and Scope"" for the Technical Schools recommends obtaining a plot of 50 or 60 acres. He states that Mrs. Schenley owns 60 acres that could be purchased. The Museum has four expeditions doing scientific work and the Art Gallery ""is going slowly"". He then writes that Mr. Webster the museums taxidermist is in Europe with Childs Frick. Board of Trustees president W.N. Frew laments the delay in a decision from the (Pennsylvania) Supreme Court concerning the land for the new technical school, now expected in January, but plans are in the works and building will begin in Spring 1903 if the land is acquired. He notes that all departments of the Institute are doing good work: the Library circulated a record number of books in November, the Art Galleries broke attendance records, and the new organist, Edwin H. Lemare, has been well received.
