A signed typescript letter from Andrew Carnegie to Samuel Church thanking him for sending the ""two volumes"" (an initialed penciled notation from Church indicates that the volumes contained Founder's Day books ""from the beginning""). Carnegie notes that he is planning to use the text from his opening day speech as reported in these volumes in his memoirs because he feels it is the best statement of his surplus wealth doctrine. In an initialed postscript handwritten in ink, Carnegie mentions that he suspects Church may have edited and improved upon the original speech.

A signed typescript letter from Augustus Willson, Governor of Kentucky, to the gentlemen of the Carnegie Institute thanking them for sending him a copy of a report about Founder's Day 1913 and for the opportunity to have been a part of Founder's Day 1911. Two handwritten notes on the letter, one initialed by Church, indicate that the letter was forwarded to Andrew Carnegie along with a copy of the Founder's Day report (not included). An additional handwritten initialed note from Carnegie in the right margin of the letter indicates that he thought the report was ""splendid."" An article from an unidentified newspaper discussing Carnegie's recent visit to Germany accompanies the letter.

A signed typescript letter from James Bertram to Samuel Church written in response to Church's April 17th letter to Andrew Carnegie. Bertram notes that Carnegie is gratified by Church's letter of thanks and regrets that he and Mrs. Carnegie will be unable to attend the upcoming Founder's Day celebration.

A typescript letter from Samuel H. Church to Andrew Carnegie about the Founder's Day celebration at the Carnegie Institute. Church writes that the Founder's Day Committee is arranging the details of the celebration that will be held on April 30, 1908 and they would like Carnegie to attend it. The principal speaker is Ambassador Bryce and ""one or two other notable men"". The Committee has learned that Carnegie is going to the Lehigh celebration on April 30, 1908 (probably for the opening of Taylor Hall, the first dormitory building built at Lehigh University which was built using funds provided by the Carnegie Foundation). Church writes that (Charles L.) Taylor, (John A.) Brashear and (Robert) Pitcairn are all required to present at both the Founder's Day celebration and the one at Lehigh University. He asks Carnegie to change the date of the Lehigh University celebration. Written in ink at the bottom of letter: Brashear, Pitcairn, Werner, Metcalf} Committee.
