A typescript letter to Andrew Carnegie from the Library Committee of the Homewood Board of Trade, dated March 9, 1904. The letter expresses their appreciation of the generous gift of a branch library that will be built in Homewood (Pittsburgh, Pa.). Included in the letter is a request that the building be large enough to accommodate at least 6 to 8,000 volumes and that a gymnasium and assembly hall be included. Reference is made to an accompanying petition of boys and young men of Homewood (Pittsburgh, Pa.) to the Library Committee of the Homewood Board of Trade requesting the inclusion of an auditorium and gymnasium in the Homewood Public Library. Members of the committee are listed at the end of the letter. Signed by the secretary of the committee, C.H. Garwood.

A typescript letter from Mabel A. Frothingham, Secretary of the Training School for Children's Librarians, to W.N. Frew in response to an October 12, 1906 letter. Frothingham states that demand for librarians has been great, and makes note of the absence of Anderson H. Hopkins, Director of Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. A passing reference is made to Frances Jenkins Olcott, Chief of the Children's Department of Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh.

A note, written on a scrap of paper, presumably from Andrew Carnegie to unknown individual, identifying who A.C.B. (Archibald C. Barrow) and Mr. Robert Scully are. Archibald C. Barrow was Mrs. Louise Carnegie's secretary and Mr. Robert Scully was Andrew Carnegie's stenographer. Carnegie writes that he frequently submits personal matters for Mrs. Carnegie through Mr. Barrow and he notes that he left Mr. Scully in New York for the summer. He then asks that his memorandum be returned to him.

A typescript letter from Nozomu Nakagawa to Andrew Carnegie requesting a visit with Carnegie while he is in New York City. John Ross of Dunfermline, Scotland has given him a letter of introduction to Carnegie which he encloses with this letter (not here). Nakagawa is in New York City after visiting Europe and will be there until January 7, 1911, before he returns to Japan. Includes ""Hotel Seville"" at top of letter and undecipherable penciled notations at the bottom of the letter.

A typescript letter from Samuel Harden Church, Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Carnegie Institute, to Andrew Carnegie regarding a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Carnegie Institute held on December 18, 1900. At this meeting Mr. Carnegies letter dated December 15, 1900 was read, in the letter Mr. Carnegie placed the charge of the new Technical School under the Board of Trustees. At this meeting it was resolved that the Board of Trustees accept the charge of the new Technical School and further resolved that the President and Secretary be requested to send a certified copy of the letter from Mr. Carnegie to Mr. Frew, dated December 15, 1900, to the Mayor of Pittsburgh.

A typescript letter from Samuel H. Church to Andrew Carnegie about the Founder's Day celebration at the Carnegie Institute. Church writes that the Founder's Day Committee is arranging the details of the celebration that will be held on April 30, 1908 and they would like Carnegie to attend it. The principal speaker is Ambassador Bryce and ""one or two other notable men"". The Committee has learned that Carnegie is going to the Lehigh celebration on April 30, 1908 (probably for the opening of Taylor Hall, the first dormitory building built at Lehigh University which was built using funds provided by the Carnegie Foundation). Church writes that (Charles L.) Taylor, (John A.) Brashear and (Robert) Pitcairn are all required to present at both the Founder's Day celebration and the one at Lehigh University. He asks Carnegie to change the date of the Lehigh University celebration. Written in ink at the bottom of letter: Brashear, Pitcairn, Werner, Metcalf} Committee.

A typescript letter from Samuel H. Church to Andrew Carnegie about the site for the ""new university"", presumably for the new location of the Western University of Pennsylvania. It will eventually be located in Oakland a neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pa. and will be renamed to the University of Pittsburgh once it is built in 1908. Church states he had a long talk with Chancellor Samuel Black McCormick of the Western University of Pennsylvania about the new university. He states that there is not enough room for the new university to be built on the ""Technical Schools"" site as Mr. Hamerschlag needs room for growth for the Carnegie Institute, Technical Schools. Church proposes that the new university be built on the ""Schenley tract"". Church suggests that they wait to ""amalgamate"" the new university to Carnegie Institute until the buildings are built for the Western University of Pennsylvania. He then writes that the Chancellor at the new university ""will be glad to come to us when we are ready to launch our great university of the Fine Arts"". Church remarks that once this is accomplished there will be the Carnegie Institute, Technical Schools, the new university, classes in the Carnegie Institute's Art department, demonstrations in natural science at the Carnegie Museum and the ""systematic study of books in the Library."" There is a handwritten notation at the bottom of the letter that states there should be mention in a later letter of Music theory by means of the Orchestra and Organ and the power to confer degrees by the Carnegie Institute brought to them by the Chancellor. Typed ""Union Station, Pittsburgh, Pa."" at head of letter.

G Scott) dated April 24, 1911. Church acknowledges Carnegie's letter of May 9, 1911 and has also read the letter from C. P. G Scott concerning simplified spelling. He attaches a copy of a letter he wrote May 11, 1911 to Scott in regards to simplified spelling.

A handwritten text, presumably for a telegram from Samuel H. Church to John Beatty, concerning Andrew Carnegie's dislike of a portrait painted of him presumably by Anders Zorn. After four sittings the work was stopped and Church asks Beatty to ""take one or two competent judges"" to look at the painting at Andrew Carnegie's house. He asks Beatty to respond to him.
