An unsigned, unaddressed memo presumably from Andrew Carnegie to his personal secretary James Bertram. Referring to a November 10th New York Tribune article which includes a portion of a speech about the annual Carnegie International art exhibition given by Carnegie Institute of Fine Arts Director John W. Beatty at the November 9th ceremony marking the completion of the new fine arts museum building in Boston, the memo directs Bertram to send Beatty a congratulatory letter.

Millet explains that although Andrew Carnegie has expressed interest in having a copy of the bust for the Carnegie Institute, John W. Beatty has ignored his (Millet's) correspondence on the matter. A typescript letter from P. Secretary, presumably James Bertram, to Charles H. Sherrill concerning a letter sent by Sherrill to Andrew Carnegie with the date of April 24, 1911. Bertram writes that Carnegie thanks him for his letter and is happy to hear about the praise given for President Taft and presumably Philander C. Knox for their work on peace. In the letter referred to written on April 24, 1911, Mr. Sherrill wrote that he sent a letter to Dr. Naon, Argentine Ambassador, suggesting that he telegram President Saenz Pena about the ""fossil diplodocus"". The subject of universal peace is brought up and Sherrill writes about the efforts of Secretary Knox and President Taft's ""toward maintaining international peace in South America"". Mr. Sherrill concluded the letter by mentioning his efforts in helping to restore relations between Bolivia and Argentina over the ""Bolivian-Peruvian boundary dispute"". Diplodocus and what looks like Pan Amer (crossed out) written in blue pencil is at the top of the letter.

A typescript letter presumably from James Bertram to John Barrett, director general, Pan American Union notifying Barrett that Andrew Carnegie received his letter of November 13, 1911 and that he would be glad to meet with Argentinean minister, Sen?or Doctor Don Ro?mulo S. Naon at 5:00 on November 20, 1911. The letter of November 13, 1911, from John Barrett, stated that Naon would like to meet with Carnegie to present a letter from Argentinean President Saenz Pen?a. Presumably in relation to a letter dated March 21, 1911 from Andrew Carnegie to C.H. Sherrill in which Carnegie writes that he agrees to comply with Sherrills request that he donate a copy of the Diplodocus (Diplodocus carnegii skeleton, located in Carnegie Museum, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) to Argentina. Carnegie also states in the letter of March 21, 1911 that he will only consider giving copies of the Diplodocus to a place when requests are made by heads of state.

A typescript letter presumably from James Bertram to William Nimick Frew, President of the Board of Trustees, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. The letter explains that Andrew Carnegie received his note and often notices references in newspapers about the appropriation of the City of Pittsburgh for the maintenance of the Library and the Carnegie Institute of Pittsburgh. The correspondent asks Mr. Frew to make it clear that the appropriation is for the Library.

A typescript letter from John W. Beatty to James Bertram regarding a missing photograph that was taken of a painting of Andrew Carnegie that, presumably, Edward A. Walton painted (presumably the portrait Walton painted of Carnegie commissioned by St. Andrews University). In the letter Beatty acknowledges receiving Bertram's letter dated December 22, 1911 and the enclosed letter (not here) written by Mr. Walton. He states that he will write Mr. Walton in order to trace the photograph and he is sure it has ""been lost in transit"". Beatty closes the letter by wishing Bertram a ""Happy New Year"".

A typescript letter by William Nimick Frew, President of the Board of Trustees, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, to Andrew Carnegie in reference to the receipt of a note from James Bertram dated January 9, 1905. In the note James Bertram states that Andrew Carnegie wants William Nimick Frew to ""clear up the confusion between the Carnegie Library and the Carnegie Institute"". Mr. Frew states that he has always made it clear to the people of Pittsburgh and members of the Councils the ""distinction between the two Institutions"". Mr. Frew tells Mr. Carnegie to read the clippings he has sent to him in regards to a meeting he had with the Sub-Finance Committee in which he ""explained thoroughly the creation and composition of each organization"" and how they are maintained. Mr. Frew believes that this confusion has been intentionally used by politicians in criticizing the library and in influencing people to think that tax payers money is being spent ""for the support of the Art Department and Museum."" Mr. Frew also mentions to Mr. Carnegie that during the last month, when the attacks from newspapers took place, he has received numerous ""beautiful letters"" praising the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, Pa. and the wonderful work the library is accomplishing. On Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, Board of Trustees letterhead, signed W.N Frew.
