A letter from Andrew Carnegie to William Nimick Frew, President of the Board of Trustees, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, in reference to a letter from Mr. Frew dated December 13, 1906, states that he would like to ""take care of everything but the Library proper"". Mr. Carnegie wants to have his ""fund"" used ""to pay for the ""portion of the Building the Carnegie Institute occupies"". Mr. Carnegie goes on to give his opinion that the City of Pittsburghs annual payment of $200,000 for its ""Libraries"" for the current population is ""doing very well indeed, judging by what I see other cities do"". Carnegie then states that the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh is near the front of public library facilities and that ""she gets the full worth of her money and even more"".

A typescript letter (signed) from Andrew Carnegie to William Nimick Frew. In response to solicitations for a new organ by the organist of the Carnegie Music Hall and chairman of Music Hall Committee, Carnegie pointedly declines to consider the request, stating that such matters should be dealt with by the president of the Institute (Frew) with the funds that Carnegie has already given.

A typescript letter presumably from Andrew Carnegie to W.N. Frew concerning several items. Carnegie expresses his and his wife's concern over the illness of Frew's wife. Mr. Carnegie then states that he is glad to hear of the increase for the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh from the City of Pittsburgh and would like ""every member of our Board"" to ""win the confidence of the Mayor and Members of Council"". Finally, Carnegie thinks that the heads of Frew's departments (of the Carnegie Institute) including, Hamerschlag, Beattie and Holland should ""develop something"" and ""spred (i.e. spread) themselves, each setting forth the unequeld (i.e unequaled) capabilities of his won (i.e. one) department"".
