A signed typescript letter from Andrew Carnegie to William Frew, President of the Carnegie Institute Board of Trustees, expressing regret that due to family health issues Frew will probably be unable to attend the Darwinian Celebration at Cambridge. Carnegie suggests that Frew first offer Samuel Church the opportunity to represent the Carnegie Institute, and then, if he is unable to go, to see whether William Holland can arrange to attend.

A typescript letter of introduction, presumably, from Andrew Carnegie to William N. Frew asking Frew to show Mr. Nozomu Nakagawa, a cabinet minister and diplomat from Japan, ""all the courtesies that can be bestowed"" when he visits the ""Pittsburg Institute"". Carnegie then asks Frew to introduce Mr. Nakagawa to Hamerschlag and Miss West and ""all the others connected with the Institute"".

Presumably an undated telegram from Andrew Carnegie to William N. Frew asking him if the architects might take ""part risk "" in payment of actual expenses of plans until the suit is decided. The plans are presumably for the addition to the Carnegie Institute building. Presumably in relation to a letter form W.N. Frew to Andrew Carnegie, dated October 1, 1901.

Carnegie expresses his excitement over the event, making reference to the expected attendance of Chinese minister Wu Ting Fang and lamenting the realities of Western influence on Chinese civilization.

A signed typescript letter from Augustus Willson, Governor of Kentucky, to the gentlemen of the Carnegie Institute thanking them for sending him a copy of a report about Founder's Day 1913 and for the opportunity to have been a part of Founder's Day 1911. Two handwritten notes on the letter, one initialed by Church, indicate that the letter was forwarded to Andrew Carnegie along with a copy of the Founder's Day report (not included). An additional handwritten initialed note from Carnegie in the right margin of the letter indicates that he thought the report was ""splendid."" An article from an unidentified newspaper discussing Carnegie's recent visit to Germany accompanies the letter.

Typescript letter (carbon copy). Art Students' League president Eleanore G. Rogers asks Andrew Carnegie to re-establish the League within the Carnegie Institute. Founded in 1886, the League was given two rooms in the basement of Carnegie Institute and later moved to an unsatisfactory room in the attic because the space was needed by the Institute. At present the League, whose 35 members exhibit in various museums, contribute illustrations to leading periodicals, teach art in the Pittsburgh schools, etc., occupies the Thomas Shields Clarke studio.
