A signed typescript letter from Andrew Carnegie to Samuel Church, Secretary of the Carnegie Institute Board of Trustees, written in response to a copy of a January 6th letter that Church sent to Carnegie Institute of Fine Arts Director John Beatty. Carnegie expresses endorsement for getting the Byers pictures, presumably the art collection of industrialist Alexander M. Byers, into the Carnegie Institute gallery as a first step, with permanent possession as the ultimate goal.

A typescript letter (signed) from Andrew Carnegie to Samuel Harden Church. Carnegie requests a statement showing the costs and expenditures of the Carnegie Institute of Technology, expresses displeasure with Hamerschlag's idea of taking over ""Mr. Lovejoy's establishment"" for a dormitory, and states that he is grieved to learn that so many of the students are from other cities, as the Institute was created for ""Pittsburgh and its neighborhood."" He concludes by informing Church that Mrs. Carnegie ""greatly appreciated (his) reply."" On personal letterhead.

A typescript letter presumably from Andrew Carnegie to William J. Holland concerning the donation of a copy of a Diplodocus (Diplodocus carnegii skeleton, located in Carnegie Museum, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) to Argentina. In the letter Carnegie states that he received a note from the president of Argentina (Sa?enz Pen?a), via the ambassador of Argentina (Ro?mulo S. Naon) requesting a Diplodocus for Argentina since Carnegie recommended one for Brazil. Carnegie (erroneously) notes there are two Diplodocus in Pittsburg and wonders if they might send the first one to Argentina, but he notes, ""I suppose it would be too valuable as being the original"". He asks Holland for his help in resolving this request by Argentina.

Holland concerning the donation of a copy of a Diplodocus (Diplodocus carnegii skeleton, located in Carnegie Museum, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) to Argentina. Carnegie tells Holland that he should get the (replica) of the Diplodocus ready for Argentina and to ship it to President Saenz-Pena in Buenos Aires.

Carnegie suggests that Frew first offer Samuel Church the opportunity to represent the Carnegie Institute, and then, if he is unable to go, to see whether William Holland can arrange to attend.

In response to solicitations for a new organ by the organist of the Carnegie Music Hall and chairman of Music Hall Committee, Carnegie pointedly declines to consider the request, stating that such matters should be dealt with by the president of the Institute (Frew) with the funds that Carnegie has already given.
