Copy of a copy of a typescript letter from Andrew Carnegie to William McConway. He thanks McConway for his report and plans of the proposed buildings for the technical school. As it is the City of Pittsburgh that will acquire the land, he wishes that the authorities might come to New York to visit Cooper Institute and the schools of the Mechanics' and Tradesmens' Societies, with which Carnegie is connected, so that they would realize the importance of the technical school and would acquire sufficient land.

Responding to a letter of Nov. 11, apparently announcing the appointment of Arthur Arton Hamerschlag as director of the Carnegie Technical Schools, Carnegie applauds the choice and expects the committee to see the technical schools in New York after Hamerschlag has explained his plans.

Carnegie answers in the affirmative as to whether he should continue making replicas of the Diplodocus carnegii those to be given to Argentina and Spain have been completed.

A typescript letter from Andrew Carnegie to W.J. Holland in regards to a letter Holland sent to Carnegie dated January 22, 1908. In the letter of January 22, 1908, Holland writes about the copy of the Diplodocus (Diplodocus carnegii skeleton, located in Carnegie Museum, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) that was donated to the museum in Paris, presumably the Muse?um national d'histoire naturelle located in Paris, France. Holland states in the letter of January 22, 2008 that he has received a letter from Paris, France from the director of the museum there stating that they will be ready to receive Holland in the spring. They are having the name W. Carnegie engraved on a marble slab recognizing him as the donor. Holland assures Carnegie that he is writing to have them change the W. to A. on the slab. He asks Carnegie to let him know when he will be available to visit Paris, France in the spring for a ""pleasant formality."" Carnegie writes in response to the above mentioned letter that he is disappointed that they do not have room for the full name (presumably Carnegies name) and that he wants Holland to attend the reception in Paris in the spring and report back to him at Skibbo.

An unsigned copy of a typescript letter from Andrew Carnegie to William McConway, Chairman of the Carnegie Institute Board of Trustees Technical Schools Committee, written in response to an earlier letter from McConway. Stressing that the Carnegie Technical Schools are not designed to be institutions of higher learning and that they are intended to educate the children of poor Pittsburgh residents, Carnegie rejects McConway's requests for higher staff salaries and funds to provide student dormitories.

Mr. Carnegie goes on to give his opinion that the City of Pittsburghs annual payment of $200,000 for its ""Libraries"" for the current population is ""doing very well indeed, judging by what I see other cities do"". Carnegie then states that the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh is near the front of public library facilities and that ""she gets the full worth of her money and even more"".
