Guthrie, George W., Library benefactors--United States, Carnegie Institute--Appropriations and expenditures, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh--Appropriations and expenditures, Newspapers--Pennsylvania--Pittsburgh, Public libraries--Pennsylvania--Pittsburgh--Finance, Carnegie, Andrew, 1835-1919
A newspaper clipping, presumably from a local Pittsburgh, Pa. newspaper, about Andrew Carnegie and the mayor of the City of Pittsburgh, Pa. The article hints that there is some understanding between Andrew Carnegie and Mayor Guthrie regarding Carnegie Institute. Mayor Guthrie does not indicate what that understanding is. Mr. Guthrie does go on to state that Mr. Carnegie would not endow the library. Because the building size of the Carnegie Institute has increased, the newspaper article speculates that Mr. Carnegie may help out with the increased expenses that the larger building may incur.
