Chronological list of applicants on left page: sequential number for month of service of Guardian of the Poor, name, place of origin, occupation, how long in the country, age, address if available, reason for applying. Left-hand margin: total count of applicants, adults and children. Opposing page: name of Guardian of the Poor in charge for the month; decision reached for each applicant, whether rejected, help with transportation, referral to the Poor House, referral to a doctor or hospital, charity tickets for House of Industry, or recommended for cash assistance. Left-hand margin: running tally of number of applicants and type of decision reached for each page. At the end of the respective month of service, those numbers are added up to a sum total of applicants and type of decisions reached. Alphabetical index at the end, following page 350. References are to page numbers, not sequential numbers. Entries are also indexed in Index 1847-1875 (Box 1). Preservation note: pages are beginning to detach, 1869-1877.
