Carman, John Blair Linn's mentor/friend, at the age of 32 years; born in Pennsylvania in 1832; mustered in Nov. 12, 1861 as 1st Sergeant in Company K, 51st PA Regiment, promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on Dec. 28, 1861, promoted to 1st Lieutenant on July 26, 1862, promoted to Captain on Sept. 10, 1862, mustered out Nov. 12, 1864 due to expiration of term (John Blair Linn's company commander during his term of service); married Mary E. Carman (1841 - 1901); tailor; died in 1908; buried in Oak Hill Cemetery (Lake Geneva, Walworth County, Wisconsin)
