Notes

Due to his opposition to censorship and advocacy for freedom of the press, Beltrán was imprisoned in 1956 under the Odrían dictatorship, along with several employees. During this time his wife, Miriam Beltrán, took over running the press. When Odrían shut down La Prensa, she boldly published the story in the Latin American New York Times, which sped up her husband’s release from prison.
