Description

Major Wilson and the 2nd PA Cavalry and the 16th PA Cavalry went on patrol to Warrenton, VA and set by fires all night on a very cold night. Major Wilson noted 'I thought we had cold weather in Penna. but I think the weather in Virginia is colder'. Some of his men froze their feet. Major Wilson thought he could get 10 days leave starting Jan. 10th due to new General Orders of the Army. Major Wilson wished his family a merry Christmas and happy New Year. Major Wilson said that his Christmas dinner will be 'a poor one'.

Dec. 20, 1863 was a Sunday. Letter was addressed to William P. Wilson since Frank was mentioned in this letter. Frank was P. Benner Wilson’s brother and Mary was his sister. The 2nd PA Cavalry was on Provost Guard duty with the Army of the Potomac.
