Notes

Letter not dated or marked with location of creation; assumed to be written in May 1862, and from Washington, D.C. since P. Benner Wilson referenced the sending of money home to Frank from Washington. Being that the regiment was only marching and drilling and living on the ground the letter was likely written just after the regiment got to the Washington, D.C. area, which was April 25, 1862. Person written to is assumed to be his sister, Mary, given the reference to ladies and since his brother, William, was married, and since Frank was mentioned specifically in the letter. P. Benner Wilson’s brother, Frank, and sister, Mary, also lived with his brother, William.
