Notes

The calling card-size envelope has no stamp or postmark indicating that the letter was not mailed from out of town. As such P. M. Johnston was likely writing from the Boalsburg, PA area. This letter is not dated but is assumed to be in the 1850 – 1855 range based on the age of Sallie during this time (13 - 18 years of age, respectively).
