There is no date on this letter but it is assumed to be May 1, 1843. The envelope was postmarked on May 1. The letter refers to a Benjamin who appears to be in college, there is a request to write Mr. Wagner, and the letter is addressed to Mrs. Sophia P. Young. Sophia married Rev. Henry Wagner before 1850 based on the 1850 census so if Benjamin S. is referring to her as Sophia Young (her previous married name) and asking her to write Mr. Wagner (her future husband) then the year should be pre-1850. In the letter dated 1845-03-20 from Daniel Schneck to his sister, Sophia, he addressed the letter to Sophia Wagner (thus she was married prior to 1845). In the letter dated 1838-01-06 it is stated that Mr. Young (Sophia’s then husband) was very sick (and he could have died at this time). The Benjamin is likely then Benjamin F. Schneck, their nephew, who was born in 1824 and went to college to ultimately become a medical doctor; he would have been about 19 years old in 1843.
